ABOUT

The Mother Nutrient Complete Postnatal with Nursing Support helps postpartum and nursing mothers replenish their bodies with essential vitamins, minerals, trace elements, and other important nutrients.†

Many multivitamins fail to address the unique nutritional needs of nursing mothers. With the Complete Postnatal with Nursing Support supplement, mothers can recover from pregnancy and birth with the comfort that they are getting the nutrients their bodies need. The vitamins, minerals, and trace elements that make up the formulas use the most bioavailable forms so that the body can absorb the nutrients easily.†

Each packet contains:

  • 2 Advanced Postnatal tablets (green)

  • 2 Calcium/Magnesium tablets (white)

  • 1 Choline softgel (opaque brown)

  • 2 EPA+DHA softgels (yellow)

Choline

Choline is an essential nutrient that plays a key role in the development of the baby’s nervous system. In mothers, it can help improve focus and memory. During pregnancy, the fetus receives high levels of choline and continues to deplete the mother’s stores after birth. However, studies indicate that the majority of breastfeeding mothers are not achieving the essential levels of choline they need.1 While nursing, the amount of choline in breast milk is directly linked to the mother’s intake of choline, so it is highly recommended that it is part of the postnatal supplementation.

DHA and EPA (omega-3 fatty acids)

There is growing clinical evidence suggesting that low levels of omega-3 fatty acids are linked to postpartum depression. Taking DHA in late pregnancy and in the postnatal period can be beneficial to improve anxiety and other symptoms of postpartum depression in new mothers, and also promotes healthy brain development in babies. The omega-3 fatty acid fish oil included in this packet is third-party tested to guarantee quality and purity.

Iodine

Iodine is an important nutrient that is necessary for the production of thyroid hormones. During pregnancy and lactation, thyroid hormone levels increase to regulate the development of the baby’s brain and nervous system, which means women need extra iodine during these times. Insufficient levels during pregnancy and post-delivery have been reported to lead to neurologic and psychological damage in children (2,3). Since breastfed babies are dependant on the mother’s iodine levels, taking a supplement is highly recommended.

Folate vs. Folic acid

Folate is crucial both during pregnancy and postpartum since it supports the growth of the baby’s brain development and also supports the mom’s mood and brain health. Folate and folic acid are both forms of vitamin B9, but folate is naturally occurring while folic acid is synthetic. An estimated 40-60% of people have a mutation in the MTHFR gene, which is the gene that breaks down folic acid and turns it into a usable form of vitamin B9, methylfolate. Many women are unaware of this mutation and are at risk of not being able to use any of the folic acid they take, so it is beneficial to take a supplement with the naturally occurring folate form.

D3 vs. D2

Vitamin D comes in 2 main forms: D2 (ergocalciferol) and D3 (cholecalciferol). D2 is a plant-based form, while D3 is the bioactive form of vitamin D that our bodies naturally produce when exposed to sunlight. While both can meet vitamin D needs, studies suggest that D3 is more potent, sustains vitamin D levels longer, and is better absorbed than D2, so D3 is the preferred and beneficial form of vitamin D to take (4).
